The program also includes a drop-out prevention and transition program for all students.
Athletics
Sports Leagues:
Orlando ASAS offers free year round athletic leagues to all participants. The leagues seek to use sports as a hook to advance the athletic, educational and social welfare of the child and community. Lessons focus on fundamentals and the teaching of sportsmanship and fair play. Life-skills lessons such as leadership, teamwork and community service are woven into practices, games and events. All uniforms, equipment and transportation are provided at no cost to the parent. All youth must meet standards in behavior, academics and community service to play. The leagues support both boys and girls teams. Orlando ASAS offers leagues in the following sports:
- Baseball (summer only)
- Basketball
- Kickball
- Flag Football

Physical Fitness and Health Education:

The program activities consist of a variety of unique outdoor and indoor sports and games that have been modified to promote the inclusion of all program participants.
Service Learning
Our service learning component seeks to empower middle school students with the knowledge and leadership skills to become the catalyst for positive change at home, school and in their communities. As part of the Orlando ASAS after-school and summer programs, the curriculum centers around the development of leadership skills, the teaching of civic awareness and youth led community service projects.
Students are tasked with creating solutions and projects that fit their own community’s needs and then asked to evaluate their project’s success through analysis of use of resources and time, beneficiaries of project, and ultimate sustainability of the project. Through this “experiential civic learning”, our students are given the opportunity to create a positive lasting effect in their communities.
