Overview
Our Mission
Orlando After-School All-Stars provides comprehensive youth development programs that keep children safe and help them achieve in school and life.
History
The Inner City Games Foundation was founded by Governor Arnold Schwarzenegger in 1992. The Los Angeles based initiative provided after-school sports programs and events to at-risk youth. In 2002, the organization changed its name to After-School All-Stars and has grown to serve over 90,000 children nationwide.
As a leading national organization that provides year-round, school-based, comprehensive out-of-school programs to disadvantaged youth, ASAS offers activities that equip kids with the skills and experiences needed to become productive members in their community and of the 21st century workforce.
In 1995, Mayor Glenda Hood, brought the Inner City Games Foundation to the City of Orlando. Under the leadership of the late Commissioner Betty T. Wyman, the City of Orlando expanded the program’s focus to include daily after-school and summer programs. The organization officially changed its name in 2003 to Orlando After-School All-Stars.
Today
Orlando ASAS serves over 2,600 students and their families annually in our year round programs. All programs are school based and tailored to supplement and enhance the existing efforts of each specific school site. Orlando ASAS’s programming centers around the core components of academics, enrichment, athletics and service learning.
The organization utilizes an innovative and diversified year round curriculum to engage youth so that they may develop the life-skills, maturity and confidence necessary to become responsible and productive citizens at home, school and in their community
Through generous support from the City of Orlando, Mayor Buddy Dyer and the City Council, Orlando ASAS continues to be the community leader in providing safe, free and comprehensive after-school and summer programming for Orlando’s middle school age youth.
